Oscar-winning British actress Maggie Smith, a beloved figure on stage and screen for over seven decades, has passed away in a London hospital, her sons announced.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in the hospital early this morning, Friday, September 27,” Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens stated.
