Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has come under scrutiny in Turkey following his reaction towards teammate Yunus Akgün during Galatasaray’s 4-0 win over Kayserispor, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Osimhen appeared visibly frustrated with Akgün during an attacking move, an incident that drew analysis from former Turkey international Nihat Kahveci.
Speaking on Kontraspor’s YouTube channel, Kahveci suggested the outburst reflected the challenges of managing Galatasaray’s wealth of attacking talent. He argued that the Nigerian forward would not show similar frustration toward captain Mauro Icardi once the Argentine is back to full fitness.
“When Icardi is physically ready, we will watch them play together in the Super Lig,” Kahveci said.
“But would Osimhen shout at Icardi if he doesn’t pass? He cannot. Icardi is the captain, the leader, the king. These are what I call Galatasaray’s sweet problems.”
Kahveci, who won over 60 caps for Turkey and is now a television pundit, stressed that the flashpoint was less about conflict and more a reflection of the high standards within Galatasaray’s squad.
Osimhen has quickly established himself as a key figure at the Turkish champions. After netting 37 goals across all competitions during his loan spell last season, he sealed a permanent move from Napoli this summer.
His partnership with Icardi is expected to spearhead coach Okan Buruk’s push for a fourth successive league title, with Galatasaray’s frontline further strengthened by the arrival of Leroy Sané from Bayern Munich and the rise of Baris Yilmaz.
