Despite ongoing speculation about his future, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been named in Napoli’s squad for their upcoming pre-season preparations, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Napoli’s pre-season is set to begin on July 14, and Osimhen is expected to link up with his teammates for the start of training. The 26-year-old, who recently returned to Italy after a holiday in Nigeria, is coming off a remarkable loan spell at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. His stellar performance helped the Turkish side secure a domestic double — clinching both the Super Lig and the Turkish Cup titles.
Although his departure from Napoli seems imminent, Osimhen’s next club has yet to be confirmed. He recently turned down a lucrative €40 million-per-year offer from Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal, but reports from Football Italia suggest the Saudi club is still pursuing the forward. Should no agreement be reached before mid-July, Napoli plan to formally summon Osimhen to begin pre-season as scheduled.
Medical tests for Napoli players are scheduled between July 14 and 15, with the team’s first training camp taking place in Dimaro, Trentino Alto Adige from July 17 to 27. After a short break, the squad will reconvene in Castel di Sangro (Abruzzo) from July 30 to August 14.
According to reports, the club will soon send Osimhen an official notice of his pre-season obligations. While he is expected to undergo medical tests alongside the squad, it remains unclear whether he will train fully with the team or separately.
Osimhen is under contract with Napoli until June 2026, with an option for a one-year extension. His deal includes a €75 million release clause, which does not apply to Serie A clubs — meaning Italian sides like Juventus would need to offer significantly more.
Premier League clubs continue to circle, with Manchester United believed to be leading the race for his signature. Chelsea have previously held discussions, while Arsenal have yet to make a concrete bid. Liverpool have also been linked, reportedly exploring a potential player-plus-cash offer.
As it stands, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, but Napoli are proceeding with preparations as if he will be part of their pre-season plans.
