As expected, Victor Osimhen made an immediate impact in the Turkish Super Lig, recording seven shots on goal during his debut for Galatasaray in Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of Rizespor—a new season record for the league.
After a frustrating summer transfer window that saw last-minute moves to Chelsea and Al Ahly fall through, the 25-year-old Nigerian striker made a bold statement in his first appearance for the Yellow-Reds. He provided an assist in the commanding Game Week 5 victory at RAMS Park in Istanbul, where Davinson Sánchez, Abdülkerim Bardakcı, Gabriel Sara, Dries Mertens, and Baris Yılmaz all found the back of the net.
Head coach Okan Buruk immediately placed Osimhen in the starting lineup, where he showcased his talent with sharp movement and physicality that consistently troubled the Rizespor defense. Osimhen came close to scoring in the first half with a powerful flicked header, but it was teammate Abdülkerim Bardakcı who converted it into an assist, redirecting Osimhen’s goal-bound effort.
Osimhen’s overall performance was commanding, completing eight of nine passes with a 73% efficiency, including two key passes that created scoring opportunities. He registered one shot on target, two off target, and four blocked attempts, demonstrating his aggressive attacking intent.
The former Lille player was also dominant in duels, winning three of four aerial contests and three of four ground duels, showcasing his versatility. He further impressed by completing all his dribbling attempts, underlining his technical skill and flair.
While Osimhen missed one big chance to score, his debut performance signaled his potential to be a key figure in Galatasaray’s attack this season. The reigning CAF Player of the Year displayed strength, technique, and playmaking ability in his full 90 minutes on the pitch.
As Galatasaray aims to defend their title, Osimhen’s strong start has boosted the club’s prospects, with fans eagerly anticipating his first goal in Turkish football.
