The Federal Government has launched the AgriConnect Initiative in Ogun State to digitally empower farmers and boost food security.

Unveiled by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, the programme will provide over 1,000 farmers with AI-powered smart devices and mobile connectivity through partnerships with Huawei Technologies and MTN Nigeria.

The devices will give farmers access to weather updates, market prices and agronomic advice to improve yields and reduce risks. The scheme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which targets cultivation of 500,000 hectares of farmland.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said the initiative supports his One State, One Product policy, especially in strengthening the cassava value chain.

Farmers welcomed the move, describing it as a “life-changing” step toward smarter and more profitable farming.

The Ogun pilot is expected to expand to other states in the coming months.
