The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 6.2 million Nigerians have pre-registered online for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) just six weeks after registration began. The surge highlights growing civic interest ahead of the next general elections, with Borno State topping the chart at 682,805 registrations.

Following closely behind are Osun (599,363), Lagos (555,442), Kebbi (472,662), and Ogun (450,897), reflecting strong turnout across both northern and southern states. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also recorded significant participation with 227,397 pre-registrations, while Enugu (5,092), Abia (5,225), and Ebonyi (6,935) ranked among the lowest.

According to INEC’s data, the nationwide total stands at 6,232,673 pre-registrations. Officials described the figures as a promising sign of citizens’ readiness to participate in the democratic process, stressing the importance of completing the registration at designated centres to obtain valid PVCs for voting.
