PDP Disowns Turaki Faction’s Registration Exercise

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has distanced itself from a nationwide membership registration exercise initiated by the faction loyal to Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

The Mohammed-led National Caretaker Working Committee said the registration exercise announced by the Turaki faction is not recognised by the party’s current leadership.

According to party officials, the decision follows a recent judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified the November 2025 national convention that produced the Turaki-led national executive committee. The court ruling effectively invalidated the leadership structure backing the registration exercise.

The faction supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said it would instead conduct its own nationwide membership registration beginning next week as part of efforts to rebuild the party’s structure.

Party spokesman Jungudo Mohammed explained that the new membership register would be compiled and submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by April 10.

Meanwhile, the Mohammed-led faction is also preparing for a national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 as it seeks to consolidate control of the party’s structures amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP.
