The plot to draft former President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race is gaining momentum within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with party loyalists stepping up behind the scenes efforts to pave the way for his return as the party’s flag bearer.

Amid these manoeuvres, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has issued a stern warning to members against endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, describing such actions as anti party.

Although the NWC did not list names, several prominent figures including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, Ogun State PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu, the Ogun State PDP chapter, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state chapter have openly declared support for Tinubu’s re election bid in 2027.

In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the NWC said the wave of endorsements undermines party unity, fuels division, and threatens the PDP’s electoral prospects if left unchecked.

“The National Working Committee has reviewed the anti party activities of certain members, particularly those endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re election in 2027,” the statement read. “Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our party by some prominent members whose utterances and public declaration of support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) violate the PDP Constitution and constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our party.”

Former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido has gone further, calling for the expulsion of Wike, former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom, and others seen as working against the party’s interest.
