The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to announce and inaugurate its National Caretaker Committee this week as part of efforts to stabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. This move follows weeks of internal consultations aimed at resolving leadership disputes and repositioning the party after recent defections and internal disagreements.
According to senior party figures, the caretaker committee will take over the administration of the PDP pending the conduct of a full national convention. Its mandate will include reconciling aggrieved members, reorganising party structures across the states, and preparing a roadmap for the party’s national congresses.
Party insiders say the decision became necessary to prevent a leadership vacuum and to ensure the PDP enters the 2027 election season with a unified and clearly defined command structure. The committee is also expected to address factional issues that have weakened the party’s cohesion in several states.
Once inaugurated, the committee is projected to work within a defined timeframe before handing over to a duly elected National Working Committee at the party’s convention.
As anticipation builds within the PDP, stakeholders are watching closely to see whether the caretaker committee will be able to restore internal harmony and reposition the party as a strong opposition force ahead of 2027.
