Barcelona midfielder Pedri has signed a four-year contract extension until June 2030, providing a significant lift for club president Joan Laporta, who has faced scrutiny over the Dani Olmo registration saga.

The 22-year-old playmaker, once hailed as the club’s future star since breaking through at 16, has seamlessly filled the void left by legendary midfielder Andrés Iniesta.

A key member of Spain’s Euro 2024-winning squad, Pedri finalized the deal alongside Laporta and Barcelona sporting director Deco, according to the club’s official website.

Pedri: “I’m Enjoying Football Again”

Expressing his excitement, Pedri said:

“Happy to renew, to be where I want to be the most.”

After struggling with injuries in recent seasons, Pedri has featured in all but one game for Barcelona this campaign.

“I haven’t felt this way in a long time. I’m enjoying football, which is what I love the most.”

“Now I have to repay that trust on the pitch, play my best football, and win titles—because that’s what this Barça is built for. We have a young team, and in a few years, we’ll be even better.”

Laporta Under Pressure Amid Squad Registration Issues

Laporta remains under pressure after La Liga ruled that Barcelona failed to register summer signings Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor on time. Both players currently hold temporary playing licenses.

Meanwhile, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona secured second place in the expanded 36-team Champions League on Wednesday but trail arch-rivals Real Madrid by seven points in La Liga.
