PenCom Reassures Police Retirees of FG’s Commitment to Pension Reforms

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has reassured retired police officers of the Federal Government’s determination to improve their welfare through ongoing pension reforms.

Federal Commissioner for the Inspectorate Department, Chief Sam Chigozie Uwandu, gave the assurance during an engagement with police retirees in Enugu. He explained that government is working to clear outstanding arrears and implement new measures, including a 200 percent gratuity payment and monthly pensions pegged at between 75 and 100 percent of officers’ last salaries.

PenCom also highlighted plans to introduce a health insurance scheme for police retirees and push for increased government contribution rates under the Contributory Pension Scheme. The Commission urged patience, stressing that the reforms are designed to guarantee dignity and financial security for retired officers.
