Pipeline Repairs Boost Gas Supply, Ease Power Shortages Nationwide

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has confirmed the restoration of gas supply on the vandalised Lagos–Escravos pipeline, leading to noticeable improvements in electricity generation across the country.
According to NISO, the Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) completed repairs on the key pipeline, allowing major thermal power plants to gradually ramp up output as gas flow stabilises. The operator said a phased increase in power generation is underway to prevent stressing the national grid as supply recovers.
NISO described the development as a positive step toward stabilising electricity delivery, adding that additional power plants are expected to join the grid once gas confirmation is completed. Consumers, however, are advised to continue conserving energy while full restoration progresses.
Background: Gas shortages triggered by vandalism and an earlier explosion on the pipeline contributed to reduced generation levels and persistent blackouts in mid-December. Repairs are now helping to ease power constraints, though full stability may take time. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
