Police in Rivers State have arrested four individuals in connection with the mysterious disappearance of Yahaya Faruq, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area.
Faruq reportedly vanished after reporting for work at his part-time job with LDM Chinese Mining Company on October 14. Rivers State Police spokesperson, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
“Yes, I am aware of his disappearance,” Iringe-Koko said. “No fewer than four persons have been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation.”
The disappearance has drawn public concern, with various groups calling on the authorities to determine Faruq’s whereabouts. The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), based in Edo State, released a statement urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation.
According to MSSN, Faruq was a committed corps member serving at Mixed Secondary School in Ikuru Town, while also working part-time at LDM Chinese Mining Company.
“The disturbing part is that Faruq signed in for his shift at LDM but never signed out, leaving behind unanswered questions,” the statement read.
Adding to the mystery, the company later returned Faruq’s bag and phone to his primary assignment location, Mixed Secondary School. “This unexpected action has heightened our fears and deepened the mystery surrounding his disappearance,” the group noted.
Faruq’s family, friends, and colleagues remain concerned as investigations continue, with many hoping the arrests will shed light on his sudden disappearance.
