The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an illegal baby factory operating in the Ijegun area of Lagos and successfully rescued 10 victims, including three children.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the operation.
This development was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, during a media briefing on Monday. He revealed that the illegal activity came to light following a credible tip-off received last Saturday.
Upon receiving the information, police officers swiftly raided the location, leading to the arrest of the prime suspect, Mariam Vincent (35), alongside Orie Ruth (23) and Ujunwa Ifeanyi (18).
During the rescue operation, officers discovered seven adult women and three minors, aged seven, five, and two. The rescued women have been identified as Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26). The children—Destiny, Miracle, and Success—are aged 7, 5, and 2 respectively.
All victims are currently receiving adequate care and rehabilitation support, according to the command.
Hundeyin stated that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to kidnapping the victims from various locations across Lagos State to operate the baby factory.
“A total of 39 suspects who engaged in various crimes, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, child stealing, vandalism, illegal operation of a baby factory, illegal possession of firearms, and illicit drugs were arrested,” Hundeyin added.
The police noted that investigations are ongoing, and the arrested individuals will be charged in court upon completion.
Police Rescue Two Kidnapped Victims in Ikorodu
In a separate incident, the Lagos State Police Command rescued two kidnapped victims from Igbe Alagemo, in the Ijede area of Ikorodu. The victims had been abducted during a night raid by armed kidnappers on March 26, 2025.
According to Hundeyin, a distress call was received around 9 p.m., prompting immediate police action. The kidnappers had stormed the quiet community, fatally shooting a security dog before abducting a 40-year-old man, Dare.
“Not stopping there, the kidnappers proceeded to a neighbouring house, where they seized a second victim, 25-year-old Rodiat, under similarly violent circumstances,” Hundeyin said.
Following three days of continuous operations by security forces and local vigilante teams, both victims were safely rescued at about 11:56 p.m. on March 29.
“The victims were immediately reunited with their families, and the area is now relatively calm. Surveillance continues, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the crime,” Hundeyin added.
Ongoing Crackdown on Crime in Lagos
These incidents highlight ongoing efforts by the Lagos Police Command to dismantle criminal networks involved in child trafficking, illegal baby factories, kidnapping, and other offenses.
The command urges residents to report any suspicious activities and promises to sustain its proactive approach to crime prevention and public safety across the state.
