The Kano Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has received 12 victims of human trafficking.

Mr. Abdullahi Babale, the Zonal Commander, made this announcement on Tuesday in Kano, following the victims’ rescue by the Kano State Police Command. He revealed that the police had arrested three suspects: Shafi’u Salisu, 25, from Bachirawa Quarters in Kano; Rebecca Adebayo, 22, from Kwara State; and Mujibat Olagoke, 27, from Oyo State, in connection with the trafficking operation.

Babale noted that the rescued victims, all females aged between 15 and 40, were intercepted on August 3 at approximately 4:15 p.m. by officers from the Tsanyawa Division along Tsanyawa Federal Highway. They were en route to Libya for labor exploitation.

The 12 victims come from Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, and Imo States.

The Zonal Commander expressed gratitude to Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo-Garba, for his support and cooperation. He assured that the suspects would be prosecuted once the investigation is complete.

Babale also promised that the victims would receive counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families. He urged parents to protect their children from exploitation and warned against falling for promises of better opportunities abroad that could lead to slavery.

He further called on the public to report any suspicious trafficking activities to the appropriate authorities to ensure swift action.
