
The Abia State Police Command has successfully neutralized six suspected kidnappers and rescued four abducted individuals unharmed in Osokwa, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.
According to the police, officers recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition during the operation.
Swift Police Action Leads to Rescue
Abia State Police Command spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, stated that the rescue mission followed a report about the victims’ abduction.
“On 09/03/2025 at about 09:30 hours, the Abia State Police Command received a report that the above-mentioned victims, who were driving in their Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa, were kidnapped by unknown armed men,” Chinaka said in a statement on Saturday.
“Leveraging on credible intelligence, on 14/03/2025, the tactical team of the command, using technological means, located the kidnappers’ hideout in Osokwa, Osisioma Ngwa LGA, where the victims were held hostage for five days in a three-bedroom bungalow.”
Upon arrival at the location, police operatives faced heavy gunfire from the kidnappers. However, security forces overpowered the criminals, leading to the rescue of all four victims without injuries. The abductees were immediately taken to the police hospital for medical evaluation.
Hunt for Escapees Underway
The police have launched a manhunt for other fleeing members of the gang, some of whom escaped with gunshot wounds. Authorities are urging residents to report anyone with suspicious injuries to the nearest police station.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to combating crime.
“The good people of Abia State should report anyone with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station or contact the command through the following emergency numbers: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, 08079210006.”
He further emphasized that law enforcement would track down and apprehend all criminals to ensure justice.
