Residents of Kuraje village in the Damba axis of Gusau LGA endured a terrifying night on Friday as bandits stormed the community around 9:45 p.m., abducting 10 women and 15 children in a brazen attack that sent fresh shockwaves across Zamfara State. The gunmen, who operated under the cover of darkness, reportedly opened fire to scare residents before fleeing with their captives, leaving families in panic and confusion.
Jocomms Correspondent reports that the criminals’ escape was short-lived. Within minutes of the alarm being raised, joint teams of the Zamfara Police Command and Community Protection Guards launched a rapid pursuit that forced the bandits to abandon the abducted victims. According to official accounts, security operatives engaged the attackers in a heated confrontation and successfully rescued all 25 hostages — shaken but unharmed. The victims were immediately taken to Sabongari Damba for safety checks before being reunited with their families.
Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, praised the operatives for their swift and coordinated response, describing the operation as an act of professional gallantry. The Police Command, through spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar, reaffirmed its resolve to intensify offensives against bandit groups terrorising communities. As residents celebrate this rare victory, one question remains—can such rapid responses be sustained to finally restore peace in Zamfara? Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
