The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) says the absence of actress Iyabo Ojo in court as a prosecution witness is delaying progress in two ongoing cybercrime cases involving her, Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Tonto Dikeh, and social media activist VeryDarkMan. The police disclosed that despite several formal invitations, Ms Ojo has yet to appear in court or submit a formal statement as required under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2024.
The first case involves a petition filed by Naira Marley and Sam Larry, accusing Ms Ojo of cyberbullying and linking them without evidence to the death of the late singer Mohbad. Investigations were concluded and the matter charged to court, with Ojo granted administrative bail earlier in the process. The second case, filed by Ojo and actress Tonto Dikeh against VeryDarkMan, also faces delays due to her absence from proceedings.
The NPF-NCCC reiterated its commitment to impartial investigations and due process, urging all parties to cooperate fully with the ongoing legal processes. It stressed the importance of accountability and rule of law in Nigeria’s digital space, noting that both matters remain before the court but cannot proceed without the cooperation of key witnesses.
