Police in Kogi State have urged organizers of a homecoming rally for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel the event, citing an intelligence report that warned of potential disturbances.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Kogi Police Command spokesman William Aya explained that intelligence indicated some hoodlums were planning to hijack the rally and disrupt the peace in the state. “In view of the security threat received on the planned rally, the Kogi State Police Command is advising the organizers to cancel the event so as to avoid any breakdown of law and order,” Aya said.
The warning comes in line with the Kogi State Government’s recent ban on all rallies and processions, which was enacted on Monday following credible security reports. The ban aims to prevent any potential violence disguised as political or religious gatherings that could compromise public safety.
Authorities cautioned that any defiance of this directive would be met with strict legal action. “The Command will not hesitate to apply the full wrath of the law on anyone who causes a disturbance of peace and order in the State,” the statement added.
Kogi State, located in Nigeria’s North-Central region, remains committed to maintaining its current peace and security amid rising tensions.
