The Presidency has firmly countered recent claims by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso suggesting that the Tinubu administration has sidelined Northern Nigeria, describing the allegation as both incorrect and misleading.
According to a detailed response from government sources, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has in fact prioritized Northern Nigeria through several large-scale infrastructure, energy, healthcare, and agricultural interventions that cut across all three northern geopolitical zones — North West, North East, and North Central.
In the area of road infrastructure alone, the Tinubu administration has pushed forward critical expressways including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Highway, Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, and the Kano–Maiduguri Dual Carriageway. Numerous other road projects such as the Zaria–Funtua–Gusau–Sokoto Road and the reconstruction of Dikwa–Gamboru–Ngala Road in Borno State are also underway.
On agriculture, President Tinubu approved a $158.15 million Agriculture Value Chain Development Programme spanning nine northern states, while also advancing landmark projects such as the Kolmani Integrated Development Project in Bauchi and Gombe and the ACReSAL programme — a $700 million World Bank-funded initiative to restore degraded land across the region.
Healthcare delivery in the region has received significant boosts, with major upgrades and investments in federal hospitals and medical centers across Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kwara, Yobe, and other states. In addition, the administration is overseeing the revitalization of 1,000 Primary Healthcare Centres across Northern Nigeria.
The government also highlighted critical investments in power and transportation, including the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline, the Gwagwalada Power Plant, the Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Maradi Rail Lines, as well as the Abuja Metro Line rehabilitation. Solar energy projects, including the planned ABIBA 50 MW plant in Kaduna, are also part of the mix.
Furthermore, institutions like the National Agency for the Great Green Wall and the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project are playing key roles in combating desertification and ecological challenges in the North, under renewed federal leadership and support.
These extensive interventions, the Presidency insists, are clear evidence that President Tinubu has not only carried the North along, but has also made it a central pillar of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
“All of these within just two years — and more are underway,” the statement concluded, reiterating President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to inclusive national development and balanced regional growth.
