President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially declared open the Stakeholders Workshop on Livestock Reforms in Nigeria, held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. The event marks a significant step in the administration’s efforts to address the challenges facing the country’s livestock sector and implement reforms to improve productivity and sustainability.
During the opening ceremony, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of the livestock industry to Nigeria’s economy, particularly in rural areas where it provides livelihoods for millions. He noted that the workshop would focus on developing strategies to modernize livestock farming, enhance food security, and address recurring issues such as farmer-herder conflicts.
“The livestock sector has the potential to contribute significantly to our national economy if we address the challenges of outdated practices, insecurity, and poor infrastructure,” the president said. He emphasized the need for collaboration between government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and international partners to create a comprehensive reform agenda.
The workshop, attended by top government officials, agricultural experts, and representatives from the livestock industry, will include discussions on policy reforms, investment opportunities, and strategies for improving livestock management. Key areas of focus include animal health, infrastructure development, sustainable grazing systems, and conflict resolution between herders and farmers.
The outcome of the workshop is expected to guide the government’s livestock reform policy, which aims to increase efficiency and boost Nigeria’s agricultural sector as part of the broader economic diversification plan.
