
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties between Africa and the Caribbean during a historic address to a special joint session of the Senate and House of Assembly of Saint Lucia.
In his remarks, President Tinubu emphasized the shared destiny of Africans and people of African descent across the world, stating, “We must come together, get organised, and work towards a glorious future.” He described his visit as part of a broader vision to build bridges between Africa and the Caribbean, aimed at fostering economic collaboration, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
Highlighting the historical and cultural connections between Nigeria and Saint Lucia, President Tinubu expressed his administration’s determination to deepen bilateral cooperation in key areas including trade, investment, tourism, education, and consular services.
“I am here to reaffirm Nigeria’s desire to advance prosperity and strengthen familial bonds with our Caribbean brothers and sisters,” the President noted.
He extended his appreciation to Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, Governor-General Cyril Charles, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and the people of Saint Lucia for their warm hospitality, concluding with a heartfelt “Mèsi anpil”—Creole for “Thank you very much.”
President Tinubu’s address marks a significant step in Nigeria’s foreign policy engagement with the Caribbean, underscoring a renewed commitment to global Pan-African unity and cooperation.
