The Federal Government has disbursed over ₦150 billion in education loans to approximately 788,000 students under the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), a flagship initiative of the President Tinubu administration.

The loans, which are interest‑free, are aimed at supporting students in public tertiary institutions across the country, covering tuition and living expenses.

Speaking at an end‑of‑year briefing, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said the disbursement represents a major milestone in the government’s efforts to expand access to higher education and reduce financial barriers for students.

Established under the Nigeria Student Loan Scheme signed into law by the President Tinubu administration in April 2024, NELFUND provides students with financial support without creating long‑term debt burdens, enabling them to focus on their studies and academic development.

Government officials described the scheme as a key achievement in 2025, reflecting the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, educational equity, and national development through education.
