President Tinubu Announces the Passing of Former President Muhammadu Buhari, Directs Vice President Shettima to Accompany His Remains Back to Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced, with deep sorrow, the passing of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR.

The former President passed away in London at approximately 4:30 p.m. today, following a prolonged illness.

President Tinubu has personally reached out to the former First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, to express his heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.

As a mark of national honour, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom and accompany the late President’s remains back to Nigeria.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with distinction. He was the country’s military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985 and later served as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.

In recognition of his service to the nation, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-mast until further notice.

May the soul of former President Muhammadu Buhari rest in perfect peace.
