
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Pro-Chancellor, members of the Governing Council, and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, located in Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State.
Professor Don Mon Baridam, from the South-South region, has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Professor Chinedu Mmom, also from the South-South, has been named the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Professor Baridam is an academic expert in Management, with a specialization in Organisational Behaviour, and has served at the University of Port Harcourt. Professor Mmom, a professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the same university, previously served as Rivers State Commissioner for Education.
The Governing Council includes a diverse mix of professionals from across Nigeria: Mr Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr Hamid Adekunle (South West), Professor Chima Oji (South East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West).
President Tinubu also approved the appointment of key principal officers to support the smooth take-off of the university. Dr Mpigi Monday Douglas from the South South will serve as Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie from the North Central as Bursar, and Dr Saghanen Ntogo G. B. from the South South as University Librarian.
The university is expected to admit its first group of students in September 2025. President Tinubu had earlier signed the bill establishing the institution into law on February 3, 2025, marking a significant step in expanding access to higher education and promoting environmental and technological advancement in the Niger Delta region.
