Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna. The news was shared during Shettima’s condolence visit to the Kukah family following the passing of Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom and a relative of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.

In a statement released on Monday by Shettima’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President also disclosed plans to set up a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State. “With the support of Senator Katung and members of the House of Representatives, we engaged President Tinubu, who approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” Shettima stated.

He highlighted the administration’s commitment to the region’s development, referencing the recent appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of Tinubu’s focus on addressing Southern Kaduna’s security challenges. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply committed to the people of Kaduna, particularly Southern Kaduna,” Shettima affirmed.

The Vice President also praised Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani for his inclusive leadership, emphasizing that “governance is about fostering unity and a sense of belonging.” He assured residents that the Federal Government would work with the state to bring infrastructure projects, including improved road networks, to Southern Kaduna.

During the visit, Bishop Kukah expressed gratitude to Shettima on behalf of his family and community. “On behalf of the family, I thank you for your presence. Despite the poor road conditions, you spent three and a half hours to reach us. We are honored by your friendship and commitment to the Ikulu nation and this community,” Bishop Kukah said.
