
I President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Board following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16, 2025. The move is part of the administration’s ongoing effort to strengthen and transform Nigeria’s power sector.
Leading the reconstituted Board is Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, PhD, who previously served as Vice Chairman. Dr. Oseni began his tenure as Chairman on December 1, 2025, and will serve until the completion of his ten-year term in accordance with the Electricity Act, 2023. Yusuf Ali, PhD, appointed Commissioner in February 2022, now serves as Vice Chairman.
The Board also includes Nathan Rogers Shatti and Dafe Akpeneye, both serving their second terms since first being appointed in January 2017. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, who began her first term in December 2020, is also serving her second term. Chidi Ike, PhD, appointed in February 2022, and Fouad Animashaun, PhD, an energy economist and former CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, are serving their first terms.
President Tinubu has charged the NERC Board to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, ensuring that all initiatives strictly align with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
