President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the release of over ₦65 billion for the effective implementation of the 2025 Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), reinforcing his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system, particularly at the primary level.
The fund is a strategic intervention under the National Health Act aimed at ensuring that all Nigerians, especially the poor and vulnerable, have access to affordable and quality health care. With this renewed funding, more than 8,000 primary health care centres across the country will receive improved infrastructure, essential medicines, skilled health personnel, and functional referral systems.
This significant allocation aligns with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes human capital development, access to essential services, and the reduction of maternal and child mortality rates. The fund will also support the training of frontline health workers, enhance community health insurance coverage, and promote accountability mechanisms through digital monitoring tools.
President Tinubu’s proactive health sector investments continue to signal a shift from policy promises to real, impactful implementation, as Nigeria moves towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in health.
Stakeholders in the health sector, including state governments, development partners, and civil society organisations, have lauded the President’s decisive action, describing it as a bold step towards equitable health care delivery and systemic reform.
