President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant subsidy on the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals, reducing the price per session from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
According to the directive, the subsidy will be implemented in major tertiary health institutions across the country. These include Federal Medical Centres (FMCs) in Ebube Mettw, Jambi, Azare, Abeokuta, and Owerri, as well as the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UniMaid); University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH); University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH); Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH); and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
The move is expected to bring huge relief to patients battling kidney disease nationwide, many of whom have struggled with the high cost of life-saving dialysis treatment.
