The Federal Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) to expand fertilizer access, improve soil health, and strengthen food security across Nigeria. The agreement was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, during a bilateral session with IFDC officials at the Africa Food System Forum in Dakar, Senegal.

The partnership will provide technical support for data-driven fertilizer recommendations, tailored to specific crops and locations. It also aims to expand local blending capacity, curb adulteration in the fertilizer supply chain, and promote climate-smart soil fertility practices for smallholder farmers. A key component of the collaboration is the Nigeria Farmers Soil Health Scheme (NFSHS), which will help farmers receive accurate soil testing and precise fertilizer guidance.

According to IFDC Chief Executive Officer, Henk Van Deepen, the initiative will also focus on strengthening private-sector distribution networks, promoting balanced nutrient use, and training farmers in best agronomic practices. The Federal Government emphasized that the partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its drive to boost agricultural productivity, reduce food inflation, and enhance rural livelihoods.
