President Bola Tinubu has urged global leaders to embrace multilateralism and reject protectionism, emphasizing these as crucial steps for achieving long-term peace, security, and stability. Speaking at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, China, President Tinubu, representing Nigeria and as Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, stressed that today’s global challenges—ranging from food insecurity to armed conflict—can only be effectively addressed through partnerships based on fairness, mutual respect, and inclusiveness.
He praised the African Union’s ongoing commitment to peace through initiatives like “Silencing the Guns” and called for a rethinking of global governance to better handle complex security challenges. Tinubu also commended China for its dedication to Africa’s development through the Belt and Road Initiative and FOCAC, highlighting the importance of cooperation for a shared future.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to peace, the President stressed that true peace goes beyond the absence of war and must include justice, equity, economic opportunity, and human security. He highlighted Nigeria’s pivotal role in ECOWAS, contributing to regional stability by promoting good governance, combating terrorism, and engaging in diplomacy and mediation efforts.
Tinubu concluded by assuring global leaders of Nigeria’s continued dedication to fostering peace in West Africa and beyond, stating that Nigeria’s comprehensive approach to peacebuilding—through military, diplomatic, and economic collaboration—has solidified its position as a cornerstone of regional stability.
He called on world leaders to unite in building a secure, prosperous future for all.
