President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, describing him as a national icon and an enduring example of hard work, humility, and philanthropy, as the elder statesman marks his 90th birthday on October 24, 2025.
In his message, President Tinubu extolled the distinguished businessman and philanthropist for his remarkable journey from a modest beginning in Iperu-Iremo, Ogun State, to becoming one of Nigeria’s most respected entrepreneurs and cultural figures.
The President noted that Chief Adebutu, popularly known as “Baba Ijebu,” rose to national prominence through integrity, diligence, and compassion, distinguishing himself in business and community service.
“Through his admirable personality, business acumen, resilience, and benevolent spirit, Chief Adebutu has become one of Nigeria’s most outstanding entrepreneurs,” President Tinubu said. “His contributions to business, philanthropy, culture, and national development are enduring footprints that will inspire generations.”
President Tinubu commended Chief Adebutu’s pioneering role in the modern lottery industry, which has created employment opportunities, sustained families, and encouraged young Nigerians to embrace innovation and enterprise.
He also praised Chief Adebutu’s philanthropy through the Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation, which has awarded numerous scholarships to indigent students and supported youth development, sports, culture, and social initiatives.
The President described Chief Adebutu as “a silent giver whose generosity and commitment to the common good distinguish him among Nigeria’s wealthy individuals.”
Beyond business, President Tinubu acknowledged Chief Adebutu’s role in promoting democracy, peace, and national unity, as well as his contributions to preserving Yoruba culture. He noted that his traditional title of Odole Oodua reflects his deep commitment to the Yoruba people and their heritage.
“On behalf of the nation, I thank Chief Adebutu for bringing joy, opportunities, and livelihoods to countless families through his business ventures and philanthropy,” President Tinubu stated.
He prayed for the nonagenarian’s continued good health and wished him many more years of meaningful service to Nigeria.
