President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday praised the Finnish government for its swift intervention in the arrest and detention of Simon Ekpa, emphasizing that Nigeria will not tolerate actions or rhetoric that threaten national unity and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja while receiving the Letters of Credence from Finland’s Ambassador, Ms. Sanna Selin, President Tinubu described the action as timely, safeguarding Nigeria’s integrity and stability.

“I must thank you for your record on safeguarding human rights in our country with the trial of Simon Ekpa. Nigeria is indivisible. We have been through turbulent times, and we don’t want to promote terrorism,” President Tinubu stated.

The Finnish Ambassador commended the President’s ongoing reforms and reaffirmed Finland’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, now free of hindrances posed by Simon Ekpa.

Additional discussions with the European Union and Algerian Ambassadors centered on trade, energy, and regional development, as President Tinubu underscored the importance of unity and cooperation in driving Nigeria and Africa’s progress.
