President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday inaugurated the Gateway Cargo International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, emphasizing that his administration’s infrastructure and economic reforms are designed to benefit citizens and ensure long-term prosperity. During the visit, he also launched two new aircraft for the newly established Gateway Airline.
“Our investment is about our people. The infrastructure underscores our faith in our country and the belief that today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity,” President Tinubu said.
He praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to the well-being of Ogun State residents and highlighted that the new airport is powered by an independent energy source, reflecting the administration’s focus on sustainable infrastructure.
The President also launched 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors, noting that these initiatives enhance mobility, security, and agriculture. He commended Nigerians for their continued support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and praised state governors for their judicious use of resources to drive development.
President Tinubu lauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for initiatives that improve the ease of doing business and workforce welfare. He officially commissioned the Customs Hub, which includes barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.
Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic, highlighting the Renewed Hope Agenda as a framework for national economic recovery, fiscal discipline, and sustainable growth. He also commended the President for reforms in foreign exchange unification, fuel subsidy removal, and public finance restructuring, which have strengthened investor confidence.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the President’s democratic credentials and initiatives such as Independent Power Plants and reforms to enhance Internally Generated Revenue, which have empowered states financially and reduced reliance on borrowing.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, representing himself and the people of Ogun State, thanked President Tinubu for his visionary leadership, noting that the progress witnessed today reflects decades of collaborative governance and strategic planning.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani; the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso; governors from Borno, Niger, Taraba, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Bayelsa, and Ekiti states; and traditional rulers from Ogun State.
