President Bola Tinubu wrapped up his official visit to China on Friday with a meeting with Nigerians living in the country. Speaking at the China World Hotel in Beijing, he emphasized the importance of discipline, national service, and representing Nigeria positively abroad. Describing the visit as “very good and successful,” Tinubu highlighted key discussions with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang that focused on enhancing cooperation in infrastructure, trade, finance, energy, the green economy, and mining.

Addressing members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization in China (NIDO China), Tinubu underscored the need for Nigerians to be good ambassadors of the nation. He urged the community to exemplify discipline, taking a cue from China’s orderly society, as Nigeria seeks to reform and grow. “Without discipline and commitment, we cannot build a nation that is respected everywhere in the world,” the President stated.

He assured the diaspora that the Bank of Industry is ready to collaborate with them, leveraging opportunities to benefit Nigeria. Tinubu acknowledged the tough economic decisions being made back home, particularly around fuel prices, stressing that these measures are necessary for long-term development in areas like infrastructure and education.

President Tinubu’s speech was met with applause, particularly when he expressed a commitment to replicate China’s infrastructure successes in Nigeria. He emphasized that his role as a leader is to provide the necessary leadership and make difficult decisions for the country’s future.

Dr. Oche Barnabas, President of NIDO China, lauded Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria-China relations and advocated for Nigeria to be officially recognized as a native English-speaking nation in China. This designation, he argued, would open up job and educational opportunities for Nigerians living in the country. Barnabas also pledged NIDO China’s support for Nigeria’s 4Ds initiative, which aims to advance development and global collaboration.

As President Tinubu concluded his visit, he expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future, driven by bold reforms and a dedicated diaspora community.
