President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress, on their outstanding accomplishment of qualifying for the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament for the fifth time in a row.
The President praised the remarkable determination and consistency of the reigning champions following their historic 75 to 68 victory over Senegal at the Palais de la Sport in Treichville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The win marks their seventh straight triumph over their Senegalese counterparts in recent competitions.
Describing the semifinal encounter as “the final before the final,” President Tinubu commended the team for already securing a place in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournament scheduled for March 2026.
“I have closely followed the discipline, focus, and team spirit that D’Tigress have shown throughout this tournament. These are the same qualities that continue to bring honour to our country and earn global respect for our players and coaching crew,” the President noted.
He also offered special commendation to Rena Wakama, the first female Head Coach of the team, whose leadership on and off the court continues to inspire D’Tigress and propel them to greater heights in the sport.
President Tinubu assured the team of his unwavering support as they aim to clinch their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and their seventh overall championship in the tournament’s history.
