The ceremony was held at the State House in Abuja, where Disu formally assumed leadership of the Nigeria Police Force after the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.

Disu, who previously served as an assistant inspector-general of police, described his elevation as an honour rooted in his commitment to policing and national service.

Speaking after the decoration ceremony, he said the appointment reflected his long-standing dedication to the police profession and the country.

He expressed appreciation to the president for the confidence shown in him, noting that remarks made during the ceremony were emotionally significant.

Disu said references by Tinubu to his professional record and past assignments demonstrated close attention to the performance of security officers nationwide.

According to him, the president’s comments also served as a challenge to improve policing in the country, particularly in areas relating to peace building and public safety.

The acting IGP noted that building stronger cooperation between police officers and the public would be central to his leadership strategy.
