The Federal Government has announced plans to expand its Direct Cash Transfer Programme as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty and cushion the effects of ongoing economic reforms. The expansion aims to increase the number of beneficiaries across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring that more poor and vulnerable households receive regular financial support to meet their basic needs.
According to government officials, the initiative will build on the success of the existing National Social Safety Nets Programme, which has already reached millions of households nationwide. The new phase will involve enhanced data verification, digital payment systems, and community-based monitoring to ensure transparency, accountability, and equitable distribution of funds. It will also prioritize women, persons with disabilities, and rural dwellers to promote inclusive economic empowerment.
President Tinubu’s administration has reaffirmed its commitment to social protection as a key pillar of national development. By expanding the Direct Cash Transfer Programme, the government seeks to reduce the impact of inflation, improve household consumption, and promote human capital development. The initiative reflects the President’s resolve to ensure that the benefits of economic reforms are felt directly by ordinary Nigerians, especially those most affected by current economic challenges.
