President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as he turns 89 on March 5.
In his message, the President commended Obasanjo’s contributions to Nigeria and Africa, recalling his tenure as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, when he handed over power to a civilian government, and later as the first civilian president of the Fourth Republic from 1999 to 2007.
Tinubu also highlighted Obasanjo’s sacrifices, including leading troops to preserve national unity, enduring imprisonment for opposing tyranny, and advocating for Africa’s political and economic interests.
He further praised the former president’s continued involvement in national development through his writings and interventions and prayed for his good health, strength, and wisdom in the years ahead.
