NNPC Limited has launched a 350-megawatt gas-fired power project in Abuja as part of efforts to boost electricity supply and strengthen Nigeria’s national grid.
The project, located in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, is designed to support the Federal Government’s drive to expand power generation capacity and improve energy reliability for households, businesses, and industries.
Officials said the power plant will play a critical role in enhancing grid stability while leveraging Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources for sustainable electricity generation. When fully operational, the project is expected to significantly increase power availability in Abuja and adjoining areas.
The initiative aligns with ongoing reforms in the power sector aimed at integrating generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure to improve efficiency and reduce outages nationwide.
NNPC Limited noted that the project also holds economic benefits, including job creation, support for industrial growth, and improved investment confidence in the energy sector.
The 350MW Abuja power project forms part of broader gas-to-power investments targeted at addressing Nigeria’s long-standing electricity challenges and driving national development.
