President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to his longtime friend and political ally, Senator Abu Ibrahim, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, describing him as a brother, patriot, and principled statesman whose life has been devoted to democracy and national service.

In a statement from the State House, President Tinubu recounted their friendship, which began in 1992 during their time in the Senate under the aborted Third Republic, when Senator Ibrahim represented Katsina South and Tinubu represented Lagos West. The President said their bond, rooted in shared democratic ideals, has deepened over the decades and transcended party lines.

President Tinubu praised Senator Ibrahim’s commitment to democracy and nation-building, recalling his courage during the struggle against military rule, especially after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, when both men reconvened the Senate in defiance of the junta and were detained for weeks.

The President also commended Senator Ibrahim’s contributions to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013 and his continued support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting his role in advocating peace and unity within the party.

President Tinubu joined family, friends, and associates in wishing Senator Ibrahim good health and strength, acknowledging his invaluable friendship and unwavering support through their shared political journey.
