President Tinubu Hosts Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at Presidential Villa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday received the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic and developmental cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. The meeting highlighted ongoing partnerships and areas of mutual interest between both countries.

Prince Edward, who was accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Sir Richard Montgomery, discussed opportunities for enhanced collaboration, particularly in youth development, education, innovation, and environmental initiatives. The Duke’s visit forms part of his international engagements promoting the work of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a global youth empowerment programme.

During the meeting, President Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the United Kingdom, expressing appreciation for existing support in governance, economic development, and human capital initiatives. He also underscored the importance of continued cooperation in areas that benefit young people and promote sustainable development.

Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who highlighted the administration’s economic reforms and the Federal Government’s readiness to welcome partnerships that advance national growth. The visit further affirmed the long-standing diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with both sides expressing optimism about future collaboration.
