President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a state-of-the-art military barracks in the Asokoro area of Abuja. The facility, named the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, aims to address the accommodation challenges faced by the Nigerian Army.
The barracks, a landmark development in military housing, comprises 16 major-general quarters, 34 brigadier-general quarters, 60 major-colonel flats, and 60 lieutenant-captain flats. Additionally, it includes 180 senior non-commissioned officer flats, 264 flats for personnel ranked corporal and below, as well as worship centers, sports facilities, and a dedicated powerhouse.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede praised President Tinubu for his commitment to the welfare and operational needs of the military. He said the decision to name the barracks after the president was to “give honor to whom honor is due.”
“This project underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to addressing the accommodation deficit faced by the Nigerian Army,” Oluyede said. “We also commend the visionary leadership of my predecessors, Faruk Yahaya and the late Taoreed Lagbaja, for laying the groundwork for this initiative.”
The newly commissioned facility, which represents phases one and two of the project, will accommodate 614 personnel — 170 officers and 444 soldiers along with their families.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede expressed optimism about the future expansion of the barracks, emphasizing the importance of continued support from the federal government and stakeholders.
“This milestone demonstrates what we can achieve with collaborative efforts and visionary leadership. It is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the lives of its personnel and their families,” he added.
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks stands as a symbol of the federal government’s dedication to strengthening the operational readiness and morale of the Nigerian Army.
