On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu officially launched the 2025 Armed Forces of Nigeria Remembrance Day emblem and appeal fund at the Council Chamber in the State House, Abuja. The event celebrated the critical role of the armed forces as the nation’s first line of defense and highlighted their unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity, stability, and progress.

In his remarks during the launch, President Tinubu praised the Nigerian armed forces for their dedication and sacrifices in securing the nation. He emphasized that without security, it would be impossible to promote peace and development within the country. “We owe a debt of gratitude to our gallant troops who have risen to the challenge of securing our nation,” he stated.

The President reiterated the importance of providing a safe and secure environment, free from threats and criminal activities, where all citizens can thrive and live in peace. He also noted that the remembrance day serves as a vital occasion to honor the efforts of fallen heroes who have contributed to national security.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu, alongside the Vice President, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, was decorated with the 2025 emblem by Major General Christopher Musa.

In recognition of the sacrifices made by the armed forces, significant donations were announced. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, declared a donation of N500 million on behalf of the Federal Executive Council, marking the highest contribution made by a president for the Emblem Appeal Launch. Additionally, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced a donation of N200 million from the National Assembly, while Chief Defence Staff Christopher Musa and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetoken pledged N50 million collectively on behalf of the Service Chiefs.

The Emblem Appeal launch is an annual initiative that serves as a reminder of Nigeria’s commitment to honoring its military heroes and supporting veterans and their families. As the nation prepares for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, this event underscores the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by those who protect the country.
