President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled plans to lay the foundation for a youthful digital workforce aimed at driving Nigeria’s next phase of economic growth. Speaking at the State House Conference Centre during the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) National Impact Summit, President Tinubu emphasized that technical skills, productivity, and innovation are crucial for building a trillion-dollar economy. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, represented him at the event.
Launched in 2023 by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the 3MTT programme targets training three million young Nigerians in critical technical skills, creating two million tech jobs, and exporting surplus talent. President Tinubu urged the 30,000 trained youths to remain focused as they become the workforce powering Nigeria’s development under a digital foundation. He highlighted that digital skills now underpin growth across sectors including agriculture, healthcare, finance, manufacturing, education, and public service.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, praised the president’s vision for a digitally powered economy and noted that over 4.5 million tech jobs were vacant when President Tinubu assumed office. Several beneficiaries shared success stories, including international training opportunities and community-impact projects. Representatives from the UNDP and the European Union pledged support, including $48 million from the EU for the 3MTT Digital Skills Fund. Corporate partners such as Google, Moniepoint, Airtel, IHS, Secure ID, and Huawei commended the administration’s commitment to youth digital empowerment and a thriving tech ecosystem.
