In line with his Renewed Hope Agenda, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the launch of the National Artisan Skills Acquisition Programme (NASAP), a six-month pilot initiative targeting 3,000 young Nigerian artisans across three states. The programme, unveiled by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, aims to equip participants with professional skills in ten high-demand construction trades such as masonry, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, welding, tiling, and HVAC.
Training will combine classroom instruction with practical mentorship and hands-on jobsite experience. Initial training centres are located in Kuje and Yaba, with additional centres planned for Imo and Yobe States. A key feature of the initiative is the introduction of a digital platform called “Craft-Hub,” designed to profile certified artisans and connect them directly with real estate developers and construction companies seeking skilled labour.
The programme, which will expand nationwide in 2026 and establish Regional Centres of Excellence by 2027, is being implemented through a public-private partnership and supported by international development agencies. It is a major step in President Tinubu’s plan to close the housing and skills gap, boost job creation, and strengthen Nigeria’s construction industry through practical, inclusive, and future-focused reforms.
