President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, has launched the Global Flood Disaster Management Project (GFDMP) in Nigeria. The initiative is designed to transition the country from reactive flood response to proactive preparedness through early warning systems, resilient infrastructure, and community participation.
The project aims to strengthen Nigeria’s ability to forecast and respond to flood disasters effectively, safeguarding communities, farmlands, and critical infrastructure. It reflects the administration’s focus on building long-term climate resilience amid increasing climate-related risks across the country.
President Tinubu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving disaster-response systems and ensuring that communities are better protected from the adverse effects of floods. He emphasized that proactive measures and community involvement are key to reducing the impact of natural disasters on the nation’s development.
