The Federal Government has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of China to commence local production of insulin in Nigeria, a move expected to drastically reduce import dependency and make diabetes treatment more affordable for millions of citizens.
The agreement, which marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, is aimed at addressing the high cost of managing diabetes and ensuring sustainable access to life-saving medication. By producing insulin locally, the country will save on foreign exchange previously used for imports and strengthen its pharmaceutical manufacturing base.
According to government officials, the partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader health sector reform agenda, which prioritizes accessibility, affordability, and innovation in medical care.
