President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He described Segun Awolowo’s death at 62 as a tragic loss, not only for the Awolowo family but also for the entire nation.

The President noted that the late Segun distinguished himself as a proud scion of the Awolowo family, exemplifying its values in character, appearance, and demeanour. Like his grandfather, Segun Awolowo was a lawyer committed to defending truth and justice. He also made significant contributions to Nigeria, serving as the Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council from 2013 to 2021, becoming the longest-serving executive director in the agency’s history.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to Segun Awolowo’s wife, children, his mother, Sisi Abah Folawiyo, and the wider Awolowo family. He also commiserated with the people and government of Ogun State, the South-West geopolitical zone, and all Nigerians, praying that his soul may rest in peace.
