President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says Nigeria is on course to provide clean and sustainable energy solutions not only for domestic use but also across Africa and beyond.
The President made this known on Monday during the commissioning of a 40,000 cubic meters (CBM) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessel named “MT Iyaloja (Lagos)” in Ulsan, South Korea. Represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, the President commended WAGL Energy Limited — a joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and Sahara Group — for their foresight and technical innovation in strengthening Africa’s role in the global clean energy value chain.
The newly commissioned vessel, described as a game-changer by NNPC’s Group CEO Bayo Ojulari, will enhance LPG affordability, accessibility, and availability in Nigeria. With the addition of MT Iyaloja (Lagos), WAGL now has a total LPG vessel capacity of 162,000 CBM, further consolidating Nigeria’s gas development drive. The vessel was named in honour of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, the late mother of President Tinubu, with the ribbon-cutting performed by her granddaughter, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria.
